2011 Fusion LGBT People of Color Film Festival March 3-4

One of the highlights of being an openly gay person of color living in Los Angeles is having access to the Fusion LGBT People of Color film festival. I missed most of last year's edition, but attended and reviewed the 2009 and 2007 editions.

I'm not sure I'll be in town this year, currently I'm planning a trip to South Africa for March 2011 but my dates are relatively flexible.

Eye Candy: Daniel Akyeampong

First found Daniel Akyeampong at the Gorgeous Sexy Guys blog, but doing some more research I have discovered he's a 19(!)-year-old model from Richmond, Virginia who has apparently been featured in some Abercrombie & Fitch catalogs. I bet he looks even better in black and white than in the pretty amazing shots here.

I think he's probably the youngest Eye Candy model featured here (still uses MySpace), but he is over 18.

Eye Candy: Andre Mull (reprise)

Andre Mull has been featured as MadProfessah's Eye Candy before (September 27, 2010). He lists himself as 5'11", 189-pounds on his ModelMayhem page. Apparently he has been having some success, because he has worked with photographer Paul Mariano, who shot the top two amazing pictures of Andre featured here.

Eye Candy: Tom Andrades

Tom Andrades is a 33-year-old model from Lansing, Michigan who lists himself at 6'2" and 210 pounds at ModelMayhem.com. He has worked with a number of excellent photographers such as Jason Ellis and has appeared on the cover of Healthy & Fit magazine. I can see why, can't you?

Mariah Confirms She's Expecting Twins

Pop diva Mariah Carey, 40, and movie star husband Nick Cannon, 30, have confirmed that they are expecting twins, Dlisted.com reports.

Nick and Mimi were trying to keep the news locked inside their lips for as long as they could, but he says he just had to blurt it out when the Obamas asked about her uterus situation after the Christmas in Washington Concert on Sunday night.

Nick explained, "They, ironically enough, questioned my wife about, you know, 'So, what are you having, are you having twins? And at this point she hadn't told anybody anything because doctors advised us to keep it to ourselves until we get further along. And because of the excitement, because of the emotion, she was overwhelmed [and] she shared with the President and First Lady that we are having twins."

This is amazing news for my favorite singer! I'm very happy for the couple. What do you think the names of the babies will be? Dlisted said they are hoping for "Lamberiah Ensemble Cannon and LisaFrank Tajazzle Cannon." LOL!

Black, Gay and Polish!

Kristian Legierski is the first openly
gay and Black elected official in Poland

This is a great story. Poland has recently elected its first openly gay official, when Krystian Legierski (pictured above) won a Warsaw City Council seat on November 21st. Legierski, a 32-year-old lawyer is biracial (his father is from Mauritania and his mom is Polish) and the first Black elected official in the Eastern European country as well.

Rod 2.0 reports:

Legierski discussed the intersections of race and sexuality in his election: "In Poland there are so few blacks that nobody has ever done research on how many there are. It would not pay to do it. But without a black-emancipation movement, and without a strong organization of sexual minorities, after just 20 years of democracy, we have achieved what elsewhere sometimes took generations. Poland showed its tolerant and nondiscriminatory face."

Poland becomes the most recent Eastern European nation to elect a Black to public office. On October 25, a Ghanaian-born doctor won local elections in Slovenia's coastal town of Piran, becoming Slovenia's first black mayor. Russia elected its first Black elected official in July, a city councilman north of Moscow.

Ruben Baars is a gorgeous multiracial model from The Netherlands. As usual, other connoisseurs of hot guys like David Dust and Sozo's Blog were aware of this hottie's existence before me. But, he's definitely Eye Candy caliber.

CA-AG: Cooley Concedes! Kamala Harris Wins!

The next Attorney General of California (will be a Black/multiracial woman)

As MadProfessah has been saying for awhile, Kamala Harris will be the next Attorney General of California, after all. Her opponent Steve Cooley finally officially conceded the race today as it became more and more apparent that Harris' current lead in the excruciatingly close race was insurmountable.

The latest tally has Harris with 4,376,509 votes (or 46.0%) versus 4,324,924 votes (or 45.5%) for Cooley, a lead of 51,585 votes out of 9.5 million votes cast for Attorney General (there were 4 minor party candidates). Note, starting in November 2010 general election ballots in California will only ever have two candidates (with no write-in provision), thanks to the ill-conceived Proposition 14 which passed in June 2010. That, along with "non-partisan, "citizen-driven" re-districting should make 2012 a wild and crazy year for electoral politics, even in the deep blue state of California.

It should also be noted that Cooley received some 300,000 votes more than his party's ill-fated standard bearer, failed gubernatorial candidate ("such a lovely ring to it, dontcha think?" Meg Whitman and 150,000 votes more than that (rhymes with "witch") failed U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina.


It also means that the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General all explicitly support marriage equality and oppose defending Proposition 8 in court. since they believe it is unconstitutional. In fact,  I would wager every single statewide elected official in California supports marriage equality at this point (since they are all Democrats!)

Celebrity Friday: Mariah Carey Is Pregnant

My favorite singer Mariah Carey is clearly pregnant, but since she is 40 years old, she and her husband Nick Cannon (who is 29 and phyne) have been coy about confirming the news. I think these pictures take care of that, don't you?

Eye Candy: Armon Adibi

Armon Adibi is a natural bodybuilder from Dallas, Texas. I first noticed him at Dark Flex. On his Model Mayhem page, he lists himself at 5'10", 240 pounds and was born November 2, 1983. He is a bit bigger than most of the models we feature here, but he is definitely still Eye Candy.

Celebrity Friday: Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa, who played Ronon on Stargate: Atlantis has been cast as the lead in the new version of Conan The Barbarian. He will also appear in the new HBO miniseries version of Game of Thrones, the first of George R.R. Martin's classic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire.

Hey Arizona, This Is What An Immigrant Looks Like!

The newly crowned Miss USA is Rima Fakih, and she is an Arab-American immigrant whose Catholic Lebanese family came to the United States (legally) when she was a baby. Rima was Miss Michigan. Interestingly, the first runner-up, Miss Oklahoma Morgan Elizabeth Woolard expressed support for Arizona's anti-immigrant law SB 1070 during the very same beauty pageant.

I wonder if the new Miss USA will be traveling to Arizona in the next year?
